How do you choose a digital label press?

Short answer

Start with your label width and substrates, then resolution and whether you need white or a spot color. Then decide whether you want embellishment or flexo on the same line, and make sure installation, training and support are included.

1. Web width

Width sets which labels and how many across you can print. Self-adhesive labels usually run on narrow web (220 to 520 mm); flexible packaging and sleeves need wide format.

2. Resolution and colors

For small text and fine gradients look for 1200 × 600 dpi. Printing on clear or metallized film needs white; if your brand uses an exact color, a spot color channel helps.

3. Substrates

Confirm with tests that the press prints your actual stocks: coated, synthetic and thermal papers, and PET, PVC, PP, PE, BOPP or shrink films.

4. Inline finishing

A hybrid version adds flexo stations before and after the digital module. Digital embellishment adds raised varnish and cold foil with no plates. Decide it up front so you do not rebuild the line later.

5. What comes with the machine

Ask about installation, start-up, operator and maintenance training, spare parts, ink supply and whether there is a click charge.
